Fargo Area Women Leaders Raise Over $14,000 for Community

FARGO – November 6 was a “Day of Giving” for participants of the North Dakota Women’s Business Center (NDWBC) Women’s Leadership Program (WLP). Armed with $100 in seed money each, the women were tasked to grow the funds in a philanthropic project of their choice for the Fargo-area community. They broke off into smaller teams and had six weeks to find a cause and determine the best way to give back.

With a variety of causes and individual skillsets, each team took a different approach and used their own unique methods to pay-it-forward in the community. The impacted organizations include: Centre, Inc.; Rape & Abuse Crisis Center; CHARISM; Diamond in the Ruff Pet Rescue; Jeremiah Program; Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals; Big Brothers, Big Sisters of Fargo; Imagine Thriving; 4 Luv of Dog Rescue; and Justin’s Break the Silence Fund.

Each project brought awareness and necessary financial support to local organizations and those they serve. In total, the groups gave $14,231.45 in cash donations and in-kind contributions. One organization’s leader highlighted the importance and underlying value of cash donations explaining that it allows investment in team culture and moral. Given the nature and weight of the work these organizations do, it’s important to reinvest in the employees to avoid burnout.

“Since 2012, the Women’s Leadership Program has raised nearly $324,000 of cash and in-kind donations for organizations across the state. I’m extremely proud and impressed with what these women are able to do for their communities in such a short amount of time.” Stated Deidre Hillman, Program Director of North Dakota Women’s Business Center (NDWBC), a program of CTB. “The ripple effect each project has is inspiring year-after-year.”

The Women’s Leadership Program is a six-month program dedicated to expanding the professional, personal, community, and health leadership skills for women of all ages.
