Bismarck/Mandan Women Leaders Give Back to the Community
Women's Leadership Program Raises $8,069.10 for Local Organizations
BISMARCK – April 26 was a “Day of Giving” for participants of Center for Technology & Business’ Women’s Leadership Program. Ten pairs of women were given $200 in seed money and challenged to grow the funds in a philanthropic challenge for the Bismarck and Mandan communities. The groups had just over a month to find a cause and determine the best way to give back.
On April 26 many of the groups headed out to deliver their surprise donations to a variety of organizations. Recipients included Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library, Central Dakota Humane Society, Abused Adult Resource Center, Bismarck Parks and Recreation, Designer Genes and Bismarck Dollars for Scholars. So far the groups have given over $8,069.10 cash and $1,400 of in-kind donations to area organizations. The grand total is still being added up as the final group prepares to wrap up their project.
Raquel Jessen and Mindy Piatz were the top giving team, together they raised a total of $1,780 for Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library fund at the Missouri Slope Areawide United Way. The program provides a free book every month to preschool aged children in the Bismarck-Mandan area. Because of their efforts, the monies raised will sponsor 71 children for a year.
“Many of the women had never done fundraising before and as they have been learning throughout the process, it’s when you step outside your comfort zone that you truly grow. I believe it is so important to give back and am very proud of the women for far surpassing our expectations going into this challenge” stated Deb Eslinger, executive director of Center for Technology & Business.
The Women’s Leadership Program is an intense six month program dedicated to expanding the professional, personal, community and health leadership skills for women of all ages. The program will wrap up with a luncheon and graduation ceremony on June 14 where participants will provide a recap of their philanthropic challenge. The keynote speaker is Sandy Hansen from the Women Presidents’ Organization, a non-profit membership organization for women presidents of multimillion-dollar companies. The public is welcome to attend and can purchase tickets to the luncheon here or call 701-223-0707. Many thanks to Liberty Business Systems for donating the large paper checks for presentation.
Center for Technology & Business serves as the women’s business center for North Dakota and grows North Dakota’s economy by helping small business owners succeed through training, technology and business development.
